bio: ...is a label from Munich. The main Gomma activists are Mathias Modica & Jonas Imbery who produce as Munk, Leroy Hanghofer and other pseudonyms. Besides their own music, they also release (on Gomma) records of a few friends (Mocky from Canada ? now living in Berlin, Headman from Z?rich, Kamerakino from Munich/ Berlin, Rammellzee from NYC a.o.). Besides releasing records the Gommagang also started the AMORE posters magazine this year, organize partys in Munich, produce soundtracks for fashionshows (Kostas Murkudis) and have been djing the last 2 years at clubs like Le Pulp/ Paris, APT/ NYC, Plastic People/ Lond, Cookys & Fun Club/ Berlin and fashion shows & partys like Colette ? Party/ Paris 2003, NY Industrie shows / Milan a.o. Gomma started in 1999. Before that Mathias, Jonas and their friends were doing illegal and legal Partys in Munich organizing also the first german appariences of people like Squarepusher, Les Rhythmes digitales, Luke Vibert, The Rapture, Psychonauts and People under the stairs. Like on their label the Munich guys always have been trying to feature and develope new styles in music. Their philosophy has been always about move forwrd and not copy. Most of the Gommaproducers have a wide musical backround. They are DJ?s and at the same time play more than one accoustic instrument. Most of them also are involved in different art projects. Gommarecords should always have a very peronal touch of the producer and not be part of an obvious fashion. Starting with dirty proto electro/ disco and folktronica in 98, (in 2000 then) Gomma was one of the first new labels rediscovering the No wave/ Punkfunk soundaesthetic of 70ies and early 80ies NYC. Since then Gomma moved again into new directions and you can hear Italo and Chigago influences besides of futuristic Pop and R & B.
