Urban Art Forms – Austria’s electronic dance music festival

Since this summer's resounding edition at the very latest, the UAF Festival has become a "household name" for each and every electronic music devotee – regardless of his / her prefered sub-genre.

With 9.000 visitors in 2005 and more than 15.000 in 2006 the UAF Festival shot to fame as Austria's biggest and greatest electronic dance music event – well-known even far across the borderlines!

UAF Productions stands for audio-visual overall conceptions. With 800 sq.m. projection screens, digital and analog images and massive laser technology application – the UAF FESTIVAL aims to merge all components of sound and vision to a perfectly arranged, audio-visual impression!

Since the 2006 edition, Urban Art Forms Festival operates its own festival radio station offering visitors on-air program all around the clock – with a broadcast range of 5 kilometers around the festival venue.

VJs, Projection Artists, Visual Artists... People diversifying in the creation of various kinds of visual experiences applying a vast range of media technologies.

In doing so, their spectrum includes everything from media installation over visual components (amongst others enabling audience's interactivity) through to projections in public spaces, the creation of spaces through projections and visual live-performances where audio and video artists conjointly create a live acoustic, visual and spacial experience!

Vienna's respectively Austria's VJ-scene is very versatile and compared to those in other European metropolisis ranks amongst the most active and innovative ones.

Although visuals – such as projections and media-supported stage designs for cultural events – have already become a vital and very present part of club-culture today, their creators still eke out a shadow existence.

Thus, the UrbanArtForms Festival aims to pave their way to the credit they deserve. We offer the playground for national and international visual artists! Such as in 2005, the well-known Austrian VJ-label eye|con has been exclusively in charge of VJ-Booking and complete projection design for 2006's edition. Over 30 VJs from Austria, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Finland, Poland and England turned the UAF Festival into an unparalleled visual experience!

Amongst them the Viennese '4youreye' VJ crew which came in 13th place at the 2006 international "Top 20 VJs of the World" – Ranking compiled by London-based "DJ-Mag". Or Fritz Fitzke who toured the world with his impressive live visual shows accompanying Tosca and Kruder & Dorfmeister on their musical travels. Furthermore Scarab, Motionlab, Illfusion, C27, Flimmerflitzer, Source and Onkel Tuca – just to name a few more tidbits from the domestic VJ scene –proved their skills!

Top VJ-Acts from England like Paul Mumford, Sigyzy and VJ Anyone showed how the cat jumps in clubs along the River Themse. Moreover, internationally well-known VJs Uli Sigg, Pressplay and Okinawa69 delivered Cologne VJ-Style to Wiesen. VJ Lyno-Leum sprayed some of his Italian VJ-temper and Polish VJ-Avantgarde came from m3:visual crew. And for the first time, our Hungarian neighbours have been represented through EleKTromOOn this summer. Additionally, Xploitec VJ-crew provided an insight on VJ-Live-Performing-Art from Finland with their visual show „Digital Spit on your Screen“. However, not only international VJ-stars had their shot at the UrbanArtForms Festival, but also various newcomers found an opportunity to show what they can do to your eyes!

Analogous VJ-Art tops the program off. " Lichttapete" 's dia projections put the Tentstage Outdoor in perspective while Georg Eisnecker and a.moebius guided us back to the roots of old school cinema art with their 16mm- resp. 8mm-projections – the direct experience of analogous movie projections sensitizes the optical perception!

Digital and analogous work displayed on more than 800 m2 (!!!) of projection surfaces. Visuals as another breath-taking, exhilarating level – just like in 2005, those art works once again manifested UrbanArtForms reputation as a one-of-its-kind festival in Austria and abroad!
