>> Quartetto Lo Greco

bio:
LoGreco Bros play, in a long career from the middle of '80 on, a special, original and inspiring blend of funky-jazz fusion, of which they are performers, producers, writers and arrangers. Enzo plays doublebass, 6 strings electric bass and fretless with a rich experience of recordings and Gianni plays drums and percussion with his particular "drive" full of "swing" with an excellent mastery of afro-cuban and latin-american ryhthms.
The LoGreco Bros emerge in 1985 with a record made with C.Cifarelli named "Coca e Rhum". In 1988, with F.Boltro, M.Colombo e C. Cabesaz they record an album entitled in which their style essentially instrumental doesn't make room for cold virtuosity. In 1990 they realize "Full Time" with G. Visibelli, D.Faiella, M.Colombo and D.Di Gregorio, a very eclectic work. 1993 is the year of "Segreti D'Autore", 13 tracks with big sense of melody and rhythmic between jazz, new age, classica and latin with some typical expressions of mediterranean culture and a sort of re-discovering of their roots.
Next project is "Jazzy Rap Night" togheter with Radical Stuff , trying to mix in one style two musical cultures coming from the same social origin, the "AfroAmerican" but with a different historical position: jazz, by tradition artistic expression, and rap, language and protest of misfits. From 1994 and they perform as session men with some of the most known italian pop artists.
Reflections, this brand new album is therefore a sort of homecoming of LoGreco to jazz recordings.
Reflections reveals a new phase in LoGreco history, a stage in which maturity becomes the absolute factor. The most they get experienced in music the most they dig and research into past influences.
If at the beginning of their career their stylistic mark could be identified in fusion, nowadays, in 2003 LoGrecos decide to start a time-trip to homage some big names of jazz and a fantastic period of (afro)american music. Maturity is therefore the key to read this album, maturity as a particular needing and inspiration. The reference of this music is then coming from late '50 and in particular all the Coltrane works.
This is clearly shown in the drum patterns, really influenced from Elvin Jones style (the famous "three in four") to create a spiritual atmosphere and the title itself, "Reflections", is an homage to Davis and Coltrane. The record features great musicians like Marco Bianchi on piano, well known composer and arranger, e Sandro Cerino, a fabulous flute player , but the real suprise is Rosen sax, really relaxed, like searching for a peaceful dimension, for a spiritual highness to permit "Reflections" in the deep of one's mind.
Schema is more than ever operating on various fronts, even against mainstream commercial choices, as shown in the years by the release of albums like jazz convention, quartetto moderno and Schema sextet. The voyage into jazz music for Schema is still on.
