>> Ernest Ranglin

bio:
Ernest Ranglin was born in Robin's Hall in the Parish of Manchester, Jamaica on 19th June 1932 and is acknowledged as one of the originators of the now worldwide rhythm, ska. He wrote musical arrangements for Prince Buster and for Millie Small's 8 million selling 'My Boy Lollipop', he worked with the Wailers and much later, after Bob Marley had achieved superstardom, was offered a permanent gig as Bob's teacher and musical director.

His other love was jazz, Ernest is a big Charlie Christian fan, and first played at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London in 1964 creating such a stir that he was given a 9 month residency and was voted "New Star" in that year's jazz poll in the Melody Maker. Ernest has been shuffling between Jamaican rhythms, African rhythms and the jazz scene ever since.
